He did his schooling from MSS High School, Pune. He completed his graduation in B.Sc(Botany) from Ferguson College, Pune. He was very passionate about acting. He was participated various cultural programs & festivals since childhood. When he was in college, he played many ekankikas and also participated in various competitions. He got married with Swati in 6th December, 2010. They have a son named Mourya Patil.

Vikas Patil is a popular actor on television. He made his debut on Marathi television industry from serial Char Diwas Sasuche on ETV Marathi Channel. After that, He played a small role in serial Kulvadhu on Zee Marathi. Then, he played a negative role in serial Swapnanchya Palikadle on Star Pravah. It was a promising role of his. He also played a leading character in the serial Lek Majhi Ladki on Star Pravah. He played a character of Saket opposite to Priya Marathe in this serial. It was also promising role of his. He also played a role another few serial like Suvasini, Maziya Mahera, Antarpat etc.
Vikas Patil made his debut in the Marathi film industry from movie Tukaram in 2012. He played a role of Kanha in this movie.
